INTRODUCTION
Vaginal tissue can change after childbirth, with aging and as hormonal conditions change. Some women notice a subjective sense of laxity or reduced tissue firmness and may prefer to explore a non-surgical approach before considering operative tightening. IntimaLase® is Fotona’s incisionless, non-invasive Er:YAG laser therapy for photothermal tightening of the vaginal canal. Controlled laser-induced heating is used to stimulate collagen contraction and longer-term remodeling within the treated tissue. Because intimate concerns can overlap with gynecologic, pelvic-floor and hormonal conditions, medical assessment is essential before treatment.
WHAT’S THE EXPERT SAY?
“Intimate treatment should always begin with medical assessment, not with a device. The same feeling of laxity can have different causes, and laser is not the answer to every pelvic or sexual-health concern. When the patient is an appropriate candidate, the advantage of an Er:YAG photothermal approach is that tissue remodeling can be stimulated without an incision. I also make sure the patient understands what improvement is realistic and when another medical or surgical option would be more suitable.”

WHAT IS IT?
IntimaLase® is Fotona’s Er:YAG laser therapy for incisionless, non-invasive photothermal tightening of the vaginal canal. Controlled laser energy is delivered to the vaginal mucosa to create a thermal effect intended to contract existing collagen and stimulate longer-term collagen remodeling. Unlike surgical tightening, there is no tissue excision, suturing or surgical incision. It is therefore intended for appropriate patients seeking tissue-firming improvement rather than major anatomical reconstruction.
Personalization matters because the same laser platform can create different biological effects when pulse duration, energy, spot size, treatment density and number of passes change. Two patients may describe a similar concern but have very different skin thickness, anatomy, pigmentation tendency, previous procedures or tolerance for downtime. A physician therefore needs to select the treatment endpoint rather than simply copying a standard setting from one patient to another.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Medical Assessment First
Before treatment, the clinician reviews symptoms, obstetric and gynecologic history, infection risk and possible contraindications.
Complaints such as pain, prolapse, urinary symptoms or significant pelvic-floor dysfunction may require additional evaluation.

Collagen Contraction and Remodeling
The thermal response can produce collagen contraction and initiate a longer remodeling process.
Tissue firmness may continue to change gradually after the treatment session.

Recovery and Follow-Up
Because the treatment is incisionless, recovery is generally less involved than surgery. Patients still need to follow specific post-treatment
restrictions regarding intercourse, exercise, hygiene and other activities as instructed by the clinician.

WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT?
WHAT RESULTS
CAN I EXPECT?
The aim is improvement rather than a standardized transformation. Some changes may be appreciated relatively early, while collagen remodeling or tissue adaptation usually develops more gradually. The final result depends on baseline anatomy, age, skin or tissue quality, treatment parameters and individual biological response.
- Support of vaginal tissue firmness
- A non-surgical photothermal tightening approach
- Collagen contraction and remodeling within treated tissue
- No incision or sutures
- Recovery generally lighter than surgical tightening

Long-term results are influenced by more than the treatment session itself. Sun exposure, smoking, skincare, hormonal changes, age, nutrition, sleep and future aging all affect tissue quality. Follow-up allows the physician to compare photographs, assess response and decide whether a protocol should be repeated, modified or stopped. Maintenance should therefore be individualized rather than scheduled automatically for every patient.

WHO IS IT FOR?
An ideal candidate is someone whose concern matches the mechanism of the treatment and who has realistic expectations about a non-surgical laser procedure. A medical consultation is important when there is significant laxity, active disease, pregnancy, recent procedures, medications affecting healing or other clinical factors.
• Patients reporting vaginal laxity after medical assessment
• Post-childbirth tissue change once medically appropriate
• Age-related reduction in tissue firmness
• Patients seeking an incisionless option
• Patients without contraindications to vaginal laser treatment
A responsible treatment plan also considers what the laser is not designed to correct. Significant excess skin, advanced structural descent, major volume deficiency, active skin disease or other medical conditions may require a different approach. Defining these boundaries helps prevent over-treatment and allows the physician to decide whether laser rejuvenation, injectables, minimally invasive procedures or surgery is the more appropriate tool for the severity and origin of the concern.

Follow-up and reassessment
Exact preparation and aftercare vary with the selected parameters. Patients should disclose recent procedures, medications and relevant medical history before treatment. After laser procedures, avoiding unnecessary irritation and following physician-directed aftercare are important parts of recovery.
PERSONALIZED TREATMENT PLANNING
At Nida Esth’, treatment planning is intended to be individualized rather than device-led.
The program name describes a technology platform, but the clinical result depends on how the physician selects treatment zones, energy, passes and combinations.
This is why consultation, photography and follow-up are part of the treatment process rather than optional extras.

FAQ
Is IntimaLase® surgery?
No. It is an incisionless, non-invasive Er:YAG laser therapy. No tissue is surgically excised or sutured.
What does the laser actually do?
Controlled photothermal energy heats the treated tissue to stimulate collagen contraction and remodeling, which may support improved tissue firmness.
Who should not be treated?
Pregnancy, active infection, certain gynecologic conditions and other medical factors may make treatment inappropriate. Individual assessment is mandatory.
Can it treat prolapse or pelvic-floor dysfunction?
These conditions require appropriate medical evaluation. Vaginal laser should not be assumed to replace pelvic-floor therapy, urogynecologic treatment or surgery when those are indicated.
Is there downtime?
Recovery is generally lighter than surgery, but patients may have temporary discharge, sensitivity or other minor effects and must follow post-treatment restrictions.
How many sessions are required?
The number and interval depend on tissue condition, symptoms, clinical response and the treating physician’s protocol. Maintenance may be considered in selected patients.
